Bracey Construction Breaks Ground on City of Glendora Teen & Family Center |
| ONTARIO M. R. Bracey Construction of Ontario has broken ground on a new Teen & Family Center for The City of Glendora. Official groundbreaking ceremonies were held Saturday, April 27, 2002 by City officials. |
Bracey Construction was awarded the contract for the project in March. Norman R. Nichols Architect of Glendora is architect-of-record. The 15,304 square foot facility is being built on a portion of the 5.44-acre Dawson Avenue Park, bordering the eastbound 210 freeway east of Grand Avenue. The new Center will house a 7,182 square foot multipurpose room (MPR) with an extended roof height of 31 feet 4 inches. Designed to accommodate 474 people in its meeting/presentation configuration, the MPR will be outfitted with painted floor markings for basketball, volleyball and badminton use when in its gymnasium configuration with ceiling-retractable basketball hoops/backboards, telescopic bleachers and other accessories and hardware. The Center's remaining 8,122 square feet will provide an additional meeting/presentation room with seating for 134 and moveable partition walls for subdividing the space into three smaller meeting rooms. The Center also includes a game room with lockers, computer lab, library resources, vending area, offices/reception, storage and restrooms. The existing parking lot will be reworked and additional parking areas will be created on the east, west and northwest sections of the site for a capacity of 207 automobiles. Eight years in the planning, the Center was first conceived when two high school student members of the Mayor's Youth Committee proposed the creation of a place where teens could gather for day-to-day social activities, recreation, educational programs and family-centered events. Adult sports and other programming will also be an integral part of what promises to be a very active new gathering spot for The City of Glendora. To be known as The Timothy Daniel Crowther Teen & Family Center, it is dedicated to the late Glendora Police Lt. Tim Crowther, a long-time community supporter, Community Development Commissioner, and recipient of the Ed Kirkpatrick Award for outstanding contribution to the City's youth. General engineering and building contractors established in Ontario in 1961, Bracey Construction projects include commercial, educational, government, industrial, institutional and religious facilities. The company also specializes in design-build projects, construction management, and pre-construction consultation. Construction completion and occupancy of the Center is slated for late January 2003. |
